A few weeks ago, I was given the opportunity to participate in the Merle J. Kling University Honors Program. It is an excellent opportunity, one that allows me to pursue a topic of interest for two years, and results in my paper appearing in a University Publication (hopefully, if all goes well!).
One of my responsibilities is to maintain a journal of sorts, one where I can chronicle my life as an undergraduate researcher. I guess the goal is to have someplace to record my thoughts, so that one day while taking a break from writing my Doctoral dissertation, I can look back on these days, as I commence my journey in the fields of academia and research.
I don't know if I will ever look at these notes as a Ph.D. candidate (heck, I don't even know if I will go that far yet!). I do know and understand, however, that chronicalling one's journey is important in many aspects. It gives me a place to record new and exciting ideas, record my struggles, record my breakthroughs. I will chronicle my paths to enlightenment and maturity on these very pages.
I hope these words and those to come will inspire my future self as well as others who may travel the same road as I.
Here goes to the beginnings of looking at the African-American Physician through textual sources!
